SiteDown.info helps you check whether websites and services are available. This page explains the information used to provide those checks and the choices available to you.
Website checks and service data
When you submit a domain, our servers process and store that domain, request counts and request times, together with availability results such as response times, HTTP status and regional observations. Submitted domains may appear in public recent searches and monitoring results. Do not submit confidential domains or personal information.
We use a browser cookie to estimate demand for each domain and help decide which sites to monitor. The database stores a domain-specific pseudonymous identifier, rather than a common visitor identifier across domains. Browser information is also used to filter automated requests. This process is separate from Google Analytics.
Our hosting and security systems may process technical request information, including IP address, browser information, requested address and time, to deliver the site, diagnose errors and prevent abuse.
Optional Google Analytics
Google Analytics loads only after you accept analytics. It helps us understand visits, page views and interactions such as opening a service or running a domain check. It may process browser and device information, approximate location and cookie identifiers.
Our custom events do not send the text you type into the domain search. They may include a published service identifier, such as “chatgpt”. The page addresses and referrers supplied by our analytics integration exclude query strings and fragments. Google signals and advertising personalization signals are disabled in this integration.
Use Analytics preferences in the footer to accept or decline. Declining stops our analytics integration; withdrawing consent also attempts to remove its first-party Analytics cookies and reloads the page. This does not automatically erase information already processed by Google.
Read Google’s Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from partner sites.
Cookies and browser storage
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
__Host-sdvisitor | Estimate browser demand for domain monitoring. Separate from optional Analytics. | Up to 30 days |
sitedown.analytics-consent.v1 | Local storage remembering your analytics choice. | Choice valid for 180 days |
_ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics visitor and session identifiers, after acceptance. | Google’s default is 2 years, subject to browser limits and Analytics settings; expiry can renew. |
You can also delete cookies and site storage or restrict them in your browser. Removing the saved preference makes the site ask again. Cookie expiry is different from the retention of information already received by a service.
External resources
We load fonts from Google Fonts and may load website icons from Google’s favicon service. These requests can disclose your IP address, browser information and the requested resource to Google; an icon request includes the relevant website’s domain. These resources are separate from optional Analytics and may load before an analytics choice.
Links to other websites take you to services governed by their own privacy policies. Our hosting, monitoring and external service providers may process information in countries other than your own.
Advertising
As of the date above, SiteDown.info has submitted an application to Google AdSense. The site includes an account-verification tag, but this release does not load AdSense advertising scripts or display ads.
If advertising is activated, third-party providers, including Google, may use cookies to select advertisements based on previous visits to this and other websites. Google’s advertising cookies can enable Google and its partners to personalize those advertisements. Advertising choices and any required consent controls will need to be provided when ads are introduced; the current analytics preference is not permission for personalized ads.
You can manage Google personalized advertising through My Ad Center. Information and choices for participating third-party providers are available at YourAdChoices. See also Google’s advertising information.
Retention and contact
Routine database cleanup removes monitoring check records older than 30 days and domain-demand visitor records not seen for more than 7 days. Domain registrations and aggregate request counts can remain to support the service. These periods do not describe hosting logs, backups or Google Analytics retention, which are managed separately.
For privacy questions or requests about information connected to you, contact [email protected]. Please identify the relevant information so we can assess your request, without sending passwords or other secrets. Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, object to or restrict processing, and complain to a data protection authority.
We will update this page when our data practices change. The date above identifies the latest revision.
